That's a good question, I don't have a good answer. Amsoil says:
This sophisticated formulation provides outstanding performance and protection in the severe operating conditions of today’s most advanced transmission designs.
Seems the more expensive stuff is designed for new transmissions, and is a better fluid. 50%+ better given the 50% higher price? For our cars probably not, it would be valuable in a new car with a high powered engine.

Quick question, when draining the transmission fluid from the bolt (not dropping the pan) how much trans fluid should I replace it with?

The same amount that came out. I use a clear bottle that I wrote graduations on, or use an old motor oil container that has measurement marks. I can't stress this enough the fluid level needs to be exact, the only way to get it right is check with the engine running transmission hot. And I mean hot, drive for 30+ minutes.

BTW I am using the bottle to put the old fluid in, I add the exact amount that came out.

Thanks for replying! Should I just buy 5 quart bottles to be safe?

I buy the 2.5 gallon jug (that's 10 quarts) it's a bit cheaper per quart.

I apologize for being so OCD but, based on your opinion(s), would it be ok to just drain and refill the ATF without replacing the filter and gasket?

edit- found the TSB from Toyota they say never to mix Dexron with T type fluid and that T fluid is not Dex compatible.

Unfortunately I have no idea was type of fluid is currently in my vehicle... Would it still be safe to do a drain and fill with Amosil ATF (Signature or OE)?

Unless you are super unlucky and some sap put T fluid in there. Do a drain/fill 3 times (better if you drop the pan once) and be done with it.

The owners manual calls for Dextron II or Dextron III for both the transmission and power steering in the 1998 ES300. I have used Valvoline Max Life full synthetic multi-vehicle ATF in my 1998 for several years with no issues. I would drain and refill about 3 times at 1,000 mile intervals and be done with it for at least 5 years. Don't overthink this, just do what you are comfortable with.
