Default 1998 ES300 replacing blown subwoofer with used OEM Pioneer subwoofer.

Hi! So recently I've noticed my subwoofer has been having a "rattling" issue and just today I noticed that I don't get any sound from it at all. I actually think it might have shorted. So I went ahead and bought a used replacement off of ebay and I was wondering if anyone knew of any guide on how to simply replace the subwoofer with another OEM Pioneer subwoofer. Also, I was wondering if my subwoofer wiring did short out, would that affect the electric wiring powering the subwoofer? I apologize, I don't really know anything about speaker equiptment.

The sub probably just died it happens. Possible the amp died as well but not likely, do you have an ohm/test meter?

I do not unfortunately. I did notice one time when opening the trunk to get a better look at the subwoofer I swore I saw a "spark" come from the wiring on the bottom of the sub. Also, I did open up the grate that covers the sub and noticed that the foam "cone was torn apart.

Hmmm that's not normal maybe the voice coil was shorting out. You can pick up a test meter for cheap like $10, should check the wires going to the sub maybe they got cut on a sharp edge.

I Agree w/Lexus2000- get a multimeter, disconnect the old Sub, with your meter on low scale(5V?) AC VOLTS, put the meter leads across the two (now disconnected) speaker wires(keeping them separate from each other), turn on your stereo to some FM music. The meter should show a rapidly undulating voltage that rises if you turn up the volume. If so, your amp is OK... All speakers, (especially automotive) with the "foam" surround WILL fail eventually, causing the cone to become off-center, allowing the cone's moving voice coil to rub against the stationary magnet's gap it is normally suspended in. Try measuring across the disconnected speaker's wire connectors with yer meter set to "DC Ohms". I don't know exactly what these sub's factory-rated Ohms are, (maybe someone on here knows), but you should see between 2 and 8 Ohms, I would guess. Any new sub would work as long as the Ohm rating is equal to or greater than the factory one. HTH.

So I received the subwoofer in question a couple of days ago and just had it installed by a reputable car audio shop near me and everything seems to be working. I even noticed more available bass from the adjustment **** than I had before with the previous subwoofer. I appreciate everyone's help with advice!
