I am planning on putting in an aftermarket head unit, i need to know about this factory amp, what special has to be done to use it/get around it/replace it. Everyone on here i have talked to gave me different answers. Cant i just plug it all in and have it work right? I really have no idea now, someone give me a rundown on a typical install, can i do it myself? Thanks again for your patience and information.

hope this helps, I got this from the TOP, Lexus customer service.

I am following-up with you regarding your subwoofer inquiry for your 1997 ES 300. The RMS for the subwoofer is 32W (2 Ohm, 50Hz). The specifications or the audio system in your vehicle are as follows:

Development: Pioneer and Lexus developed this system.
Manufacturer: System is built to specification.
Processing:
195 watts, maximum
86 watts, continuous average power, 0.1% total harmonic distortion,
20-20,000 Hz into 4 Ohms
5-channel high power amplifier
Electronic crossover network

If you have any further questions, you can also reach the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department at 1-800-255-3987, Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Pacific Time.

There is no wire harness for the 92. When you change head units, you have to hard wire. I'm putting a deck in my 92 this weekend, and plan on running new wire to all the speakers to jump around the factory amp. The factory amp doesn't have much, and if you have a quality deck(Alpine, Eclipse, ect.) you will get much better sound than stock without the factory amp being used. I'm sure there is a way to wire your aftermarket deck into the stock amp, but it definately will not be plug and play, and I don't think it would be worth the trouble in the long run. Plus if you run 22W RMS or whatever your deck delivers as inputs into any factory amp, I don't see it lasting long.

I've also read a lot of posts on here about people not knowing about the kit for the install. There is one! Don't just leave a hole in the dash. They list the kit on Crutchfield.com for $19.99, although I got mine from a local audio shop so I didn't have to wait for it to get here. It's a nice clean kit, with the deck opening on top, and 3 CD slots below to fill the empty space.
