hood will not stay up in cold weather. trying to replace hood lifters . cannot get the d### things off to put the new ones on. My brother is trying to do it and he says it is almost like there is screw lock or some thing on the connections. Any suggestions???

Hello,

Those struts are indeed bolted in on one side, and have a locking tab with the stud that can be unscrewed on the other. Please refer to the video below on how to replace them, if there is no such tab, unscrew the whole stud.
