To get it to release if it's non-responsive, you need to take it out of the console and then get it to eject. It varies by model; single units usually can be made to release via detents on the side; changers usually require opening it up (which is tedious). If you google you can find the solution; I have in the past but no bookmarks, sorry.
If you think it's making a draw, you can do a drain test. Recent good info here, or google 'parasitic draw test.'

If you have the budget take the opportunity to upgrade to a modern system. I personally like the Kenwood DDX5706S, pair it with Hertz speakers and a Hertz amplifier and you'll get stellar sound.
