Can anyone tell me the coding of the wires on my fuel pump plug/pigtail? the 5 wires it has are green, white with black stripe /brown blue and yellow ? I need to know which is the power and which is the ground. Thanks in advance

Hello,

You will probably be better off shorting the Circuit Opening Relay (CIR OPN Relay), which is located under the hood and controls the 12V supply to a pump, that way you will both verify that your wiring is good, and supply constant 12V to the pump. Bottom two pins (Pins 4 and 5) of the trapezoidal connector on the fuel pump are the ones that supply power to the pump, short the Switch side of the relay (do not confuse with the Coil side) and see if the pump will engage, if not, verify that you have power on the pump with a test light, not a multimeter, if so, replace the pump, if not, diagnose the wiring with the diagram provided in the LeX2K post.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Search pump in the PDF it shows up. Remember, there is only power to the pump when the engine is cranking or running. Key to ON position does not send power. +1 on using a test light (incandescent not LED) a test meter can fool you since it has very high internal resistance, this results in "floating" or "surface" voltage readings.

Why do you need to supply power directly to the pump? As I wrote before, do not try to wire directly to the fuel pump, it may cause property damage. Instead, connect a light bulb across Pins 4 and 5, then crank the engine, you should see the bulb light up, if so, the pump is bad, if not, it will be time to find a specialist, since it will likely be a result of a bad wiring.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

What is the reason behind testing it out of the car?
Why did you pull it out in the first place?

Testing the pump while dry may damage it. I would suggest to put it back in the car and power it from stock pigtail, if the pump is working, you will definitely be able to hear it.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
