Default Help identify the noise, please!

2001 ES300 155k miles

No apparent issues yet, just the noise, not the a/c clutch or compressor. Alternator?

thanks in advance!!!

If anyone can guess correctly what your problem is I'll be very impressed. Not much to go on. Post a video.

Hello,

That sounds like a common issue on 1MZ-FE engine, which is caused my some constructive mishap in the timing belt design, here you can find more information about it. You can try fighting with it if your belt is nearing its lifespan, but if it is still good, I would probably leave it alone for now and just keep an eye on it, so that it won't get any worse.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Yes does sound like the dreaded but harmless timing belt noise.

Thanks guys, this was very helpful! The timing belt was replaced about 22k miles ago. I don't know which kit the shop used, but I'm sure it was not an OEM. I will leave it alone for now.

Yep- happened to me. Used a non toyota belt and noise started a few months later. Swapped out the belt for a genuine lexus/toyota belt and also replaced the cam sprockets
