Default 02 ES300 Wiring

Hi all, on my 2002 300 should there be a cover on the left side of the engine for wiring? Right beside the alternator? I have managed to secure the wires but the alternator belt has definitely cut through the plastic sheath and the wire sheath itself in a couple of places.

More than that, I'm throwing codes for EVAP and O2 sensor, can anyone tell me if these wires have anything to do with either of those things? As of now, I'm getting around 13 mpg on average so there is something wrong but i dont want to replace an O2 sensor for it to be upstream in the wiring.

If I'm way off base just let me know, I'm an industrial technician, not an automotive one.

Can you post a pic of what you're talking about?

I asked my question a bit hastily after using just memory but here is the cover I was talking about....

Here is the wire and where it comes from...

Could that be one of my issues? I mean i know its not good.

I can only guess if that is causing your problem but like you say, it's not good. Cut back the tubing to get a good look at the wires. That looks like 1/2" wire conduit easy to replace, you may also need to repair some of the wires.

Did you remove several brackets to get a better photo of the wires in question?

Nope, just how it is. I managed to jurry rig up something to hold the wires in place though, that's an after not a before picture.

There are a series of brackets that connect the alternator to the engine mounting
HERE is a partial parts diagram

12327A - STAY, ENGINE MOUNTING, NO.2 RH looks missing

in your photo, you see a bracket to the right of the wires, with through hole. That bolt hole should be attached. Will look for additional photos to help illustrate the proper mounting. Did someone change the alternator recently?

What are the trouble code numbers that appear from the scan? 13MPG is a major issue if not tended to ASAP.

From memory, the wires go to
Oil level sensor
Crank position sensor
Oil pressure sensor

A live data scanner will provide real time system functions.

If you plan on doing the work yourself, I always recommend the repair manual from Toyota HERE
It gives a step by step diagnosis on how to address most issues with the car. I believe, when viewing the manual sections, you have the ability to save the file(s) onto your computer

I, myself, just replaced the the alternator. I noticed the cut wires and tried to tuck them in but the belt was slipping from not enough tension and when i went to fix that, I noticed that its getting worse. I will go and check my codes tomorrow and see if they have anything to to do with where these wires go.
