Default Newbie question...How can I pep this thing up a bit?

Just got my wife the new ES330. I am unfamiliar with the world of Lexus/Toyota performance. What can I do to get a llittle more power from this thing? There is usually a list of mods that can be done right off the bat. Air filter? What are the basics?

Thanks for your help, look forward to contributing to the forums.

Congrats on getting your wife the all-new ES The ES 330 has the highest horsepower out of all ES year-models, at 225 hp under a 3.3L, V6 engine. For what it's worth, I think you should pretty much leave the new ES alone performance-wise. The main focus is and has always been on the luxury interior and styling.

You'll definitely pick up on a lot of Toyota/Lexus info by keeping up with the ClubLexus forums and going through the archives.

you're already doing a 7.2 seconds 0-60 run. the older 3L es300s all run about 8.3-8.5

if its your wifes car, and you arent racing, no filter needed.... just leave it as is, unless she is the racing type. she shouldnt have any problems pulling into traffic or merging on the highway

Ok, Ok, I got your point. Maybe I should let this thing break in a bit before I start complaining. I'll wait a while and see what happens. I was just thinking K&N replacement filter or something. Not air intake and such. Appreciate the feedback.

K&N is the best bang for the buck. In fact, it's probably even better than getting a full aftermarket intake unit in some ways, it increases the air flow, but yet, you don't lose the low end power.

Cool

You never really see any gains out of a replacement air filter down low to begin with. Normally that goes the same for CAI's & such. You might pickup speed slightly faster on the highway with a K&N. I'm glad I have mine, but it's not tons better trust me.

*Also note the standing attitude on this forum is that a Ram Air/(Which is bull****)CAI = (at best) a K&N filter + noise. Many people here saw less performance with CAI's.

IMHO here's my beef with them. If you're not getting any performance gains over a $35 filter and you're making a noise that attracts people with *real* fast cars. Why go through the embarrasement of getting slaughtered at every stoplight by someone with a descently quick car.

We're all about show & the Luxury. If you want something fast, buy her a VW Pan & drop a small block 350 in it with a super. 300-400hp on a car wieghing less than 1500lbs. Goodnight!

Some of us still have hope lol...

But to LunarDDS:

If you wanna see any performance gains out of the car, you'll have to drop some big bucks into it. There's just not a performance oriented aftermarket for our vehicles.

Default Correction

You can do minor things however....but as far as speed & HP increase....4 get it...Read on

Now as was earlier mentions sorry to say he is right we are all about speed and luxury!!
Toyota lost mostly all its Speed respect when they got rid of the Mighty Supra TT.......

ES330.....Man just look good ease back play the stereo and know that your ride may NEVER get those 250-275 bHP it deserves, not that it has the suspention do handle such things properly anyways...but ya know what your wife will look better and last longer with little to no problems in that Lex than most those other speed HP demons............

As for me My 97 ES300 has brake upgrade and 1" drop and handles better than stock by far.....sits on 17" Zenetti Milano chrome.....and just bling blings the night away........

Now if you wanna stare at me at the stoplight, let me go home and come back....I got that 03' G35 Coupe fa yo A$$!!............LOL.....and thats just stock ....now gimme a couple of years with my Red Demon G35 and she'll be pumpin over 350HP......

Point is ...........love the ride and looks its a beautiful quality car............You want speed.....Get an IS300
the ES just AINT that kinda beast......she's tame......but she is HOT AS HELL!!

Thats my thought on this

You do have quite possibly the fastest ES. 225hp, 240lbs torque. 1st generations had 185/188hp and equal torque, 2nd generations 200/210 hp and equal torque.

K&N filter won't cause it to go faster but it will catch more particles and you won't need to EVER replace your air filter (just clean).

I suggest drop it and add some 18" wheels for your wife to REALLY stand out from the crowd.

Oh and there will probably be no acceleration parts offered for the ES 330. The demographics just are not there for the car. The IS 300 at the same price is offered for those interested in adding performance.

Sorry.
