The PS fluid cap says "use Dexron type ATF" -- amazon has a " full synthetic for a little over 5 bucks and also
for about $20.
Amazon has a tool that says the valvoline "fits" the 2002 es300 but doesn't say the same for the toyota fluid.
Basic questions:
1. My steering just started whining when I turn the wheel, so I checked the fluid lvel and it's way down. Can I safely use the cheaper valvoline for topping off (i.e. i'm not going to drain out the old fluid, i'll only add fluid and mix it in a sense with whatever's already in the vehicle)?
or
2. Do I need to necessarily go the lexus dealership for an item like this?
Thanks for suggestions.

Most any Dexron III compatible fluid will work okay, yes you can mix with what is in there. Just about any Walmart will have Valvoline MaxLife it's fine for your PS system. Do you have a leak? If so Lucas transmission stop leak does the job as long as your leak is not severe.
