Hi everyone,
I’ve always loved the third generation ES. I’m well aware of the issues with the tranny and valve cover gaskets, etc.
There’s a one owner 2001 ES for sale in my area with 108,000 miles. Everything has been done and documented. Timing belt, water pump, pulleys, all new shocks, recent transmission fluid change with original tranny. Car is mint inside and out. $7,400. Might be able to talk him down to $6,500. Used car market is insane. Two years ago it’s a $5k car. Crazy to consider this as a daily driver around town? Thanks all.

If the transmission doesn't act odd on your test drive then why not. Sure it's a sellers market but doesn't make a particular car better or worse just worse value.

The 97-01 ES had issues with sludge build-up that caused major engine problems, so make sure the oil was changed religiously in those 108k miles. Otherwise it's a great car with nothing else really a problem.
