Do 3rd gen Lexus ES300 headlights fit in the 2nd gen Lexus ES300?

Thanks, Arsenii. I know not related to this post, but I think I recall you mentioning that you've rebuilt the transmission on your 3rd gen (or was it 2nd gen?) Lexus ES300.
The transmission on mine is almost due so I was wondering if there's a good guide out there in terms of how to rebuild your own transmission.

What makes you think that your transmission is on its way?
No, I really don't remember saying that frankly, U140E in my 2000 ES300 is still fine ... mostly.. It has a few issues here and there, more metal dust in the pan than I would feel comfortable with, but other than that, it still works as intended.
Your car has an older style transmission, so I can't give any advice on how to properly rebuild it.. One thing for sure is if you have never done this before, it will be one joyful ride for you. In any case, it can actually be cheaper to find a descent used option and replace the whole unit instead of trying to rebuild the existing one, A541E transmission used in your car is not known for any inherent troubles, so you won't have much of an issue finding a good replacement.
Anyhow, it would probably be better to create a new thread for this discussion..![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Hope this helps and best of luck!

I see. Must have been someone else.
Yes - mechanic advised doing a used transmission (but I assume it'll last near 200k miles like mine before getting bad). The check engine light was showing Shift Solenoid E issues (if I'm recalling correctly).
The transmission seems to start on 2nd gear unless I use the ECT Power. Then it drives okay. So feels like it's hauling when I'm starting from 0 mph. Did 2 transmission fluid changes so that quick fix is gone.
If the A541E transmission is known to be bullet proof, I might just pull and swap one from the junk yard.

What code do you get? If it is a circuit malfunction code, no amount of of fluid or rebuild will fix a broken circuit. Here is a thread on how to check the solenoid resistance without taking the pan off. If just that solenoid is bad, it can very well give you a no gear condition that you have issues with, while the rest of the transmission internals may still be good.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Thanks. Fortunately it's not showing a code right now (though I thought it was the Shift Solenoid E). Drives fine with the ECT Power it seems, but still a little harsh on the shifting. And maybe less on power/acceleration.

The fact that the code is not yet present doesn't mean that the solenoid resurrected itself, nor that the transmission is working as intended. It may be wise to look for a good independent shop that can test the solenoids to see if that will solve the issue.

Yeah I suspect it'll need work soon, but my regular mechanic said it drives fine with the ECT Power so try it out and just drive it for a bit. The two transmissions shops that I went to both said you can try $500 for a solenoid replacement, but no guarantee and you may need a full rebuild anyway. So that's why I've been stalling.
My mechanic suggested replacing it with a tested used transmission (for around $2,000), and the transmission rebuilds are about $3,500. Thinking I might just go with the used transmission if my original doesn't work well. Or find some time to rebuild my own lol.
