I hear ya bud! I think the A/C goes for somewhere in the 2000-2500 area, which is pretty darn steep. Beauty though, eh?

Some quotes
OK I went to 3 different Lexus dealerships and got a quote from each of them for repairing/repainting the bumper. One of the dealerships also recommends a repaint of the black part of the bumper, which to me is a waste of my money
- Lexus quote #1 = $559 (includes repaint of black and grey portions of bumper, no loaner)
- Lexus quote #2 = $431 (includes repaint of grey bumper, no loaner but maybe "next month")
- Lexus quote #3 = $506 (includes repaint of grey bumper, Lexus loaner available)
As you can see, the quotes are around the ballpark of $500. This is the most important question right now: Is this a justifiable price for repairing/repainting a PLASTIC bumper? What if I find a used '00-'01 bumper (prepainted or not) and replace with that? Another thing... my ES would have to be held for 2-3 days to get the job done, and to have no loaner available from the body shop is absolutely ridiculous. Of course they mentioned the rental alternative, but there's no point in putting down $30/day while my car is away. I guess there's always the alternative of the DIY touch-up, but I'm not too sure of the quality done that way. Or (as my old man mentioned to me yesterday), I could just leave the bumper scratch alone, given the fact that it's located near the bottom of the bumper.
Help me out if this money is worth spending to have Lexus repaint the bumper. If not, I'll learn to live with the scratch

Doug that sounds CRAZY!! Perhaps another CT resident could come on and post a respectable bodyshop that could paint that for you. For reference, my brother got a quote of 450-550 to paint ALL THE GRAY MOULDINGs on his CAR!!
Please do not let those people stick it to you like that bro!!

wow... bummer! i remember seeing that car in perfect condition just a couple of weeks ago! i've gotten the white pieces on the bumper painted by a shop and i must say, i got what i paid for ($350 for the white pieces front and rear bumpers and spoiler.) the color was a pretty close match but imperfections were still evident such as tiny dust particles embedded in the paint and tiny holes in the clearcoat. ive seen how lexus of massapequa paints the bumpers on pre-owned vehicles and they do it outdoors! i went to millenium toyota and at least they have a separate indoor paint shop and they use dupont paint i believe. wherever i went, ive been told that its more costly and time consuming to paint the top piece of the bumper due to the fact that its a pearl 3 layer paint. since the scratch is on the single layer greyish area, it shouldnt cost more than $300 to have the entire grey part repainted.

If it's too bad for you sand it with an 1800/2000 grit wet paper.
It'll scuff the clear coat off, but it really dosen't matter so long as you use a good wax regularly...
Keep in mind sand-paper dosen't stop automatically when it hits the clear coat.
I vote hit it was some of Meg's DACP. Top it with a *good* glaze and whatever wax you use. (make sure the polish/glaze/wax don't remove each other)

I know how you feel.. Similar thing happened to me recently... actually happened to me twice in a two week span.... Really sucks when you care for your car so much, and someone messes it up in a couple of seconds..
