What is the most trouble-free year for late 90's/ early to mid 2000's Lexus ES? I'm reading a lot of older reviews from owners who complained about a number of issues.
A relative had a 2006 ES years ago and told me it never gave her any major problems. It seems that 2006 shouldve been a good year for the model considering it was the last of that generation.
Many thanks for any insights you're willing to share.

Hello,
While 2005-2006 ES330 is about as refined as ES ever got, any 4th-gen has essentially bulletproof reputation. At this point though, it's more about finding a descent unit that was well taken care of, rather than about any inherent flaws in the car's construction.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

The es-series is basically like the Camry. Just all around reliable, so I would get whatever you can afford. I’ve got a first gen and the only gripe I have with it is the fuel economy. Newer ones have better fuel eco. If I could do over I’d go with a es330 and above.. but then again I got my es300 for cheap so I can’t complain to much

This is 100 percent spot on. I'd further add grab a rust-free one of any year you can find but do aim for an 'o5 or '06. Having said all that, I settled for an '04 that has never seen road salt but I yearn for an '05 or '06.

have a 2002 ES300. Only one issue that I have is the CD player. The rest is perfect. The belt also squeaks when cold and front defogger bottom activated. But it goes away in few seconds.
