Default Is this a normal amount of inner cv joint movement

Brand new CV joint installed

got under the car to look at it and the joint moves rotationally a ton (and clicks)
and
moves in and out quite a bit

is this normal?
is the ring actually snapped into place?

Lex2K explained about the ring groove. The other movement is related to the gears inside.
