In fact the E90 sedan outsold entire E46 line up when you compare Jan 05 to Jan 06 data. (7800 vs 7000).
The 5 series also enjoyed the same sucess when compare data on yearly basis.
The fact of matter is that prior to jan, lexus has not problem moving 2500 GS per month, but in jan 06, lexus did not even move 2,000 GS. The GS demand has stablized after introduction.
I am not equating GS to the RL. I am stating that GS is not doing as well as people here made it out to be. GS has been sucessful in taking away market share from E class. However, the 5 is taking a even bigger chunk out. The 5 series sales is up 1/3 if you compare 1/06 data to 1/05.
Also RX does not compete with the E90 (3 series).
The fact of matter is that lexus has failed to gain market share from BMW. BMW has actually improved its hold on the market. Even with a focused IS, the 3 series sales simply has gotten better and shows no impact with introduction of IS.
Based on performance of GS, with sales on the decline into stable demand after novelty wears off, you can safely conclude that the IS will probably fail in its mission to slow down the 3 series.
Lexus positioned IS to be a direct competitor of the 3 series, but it has failed miserably in its mission of stealing sales away from 3 series (even though it sold very well by stealing from the C). My main point is that if IS failed so badly in stealing the 3 series's sales, why would anyone think that the ES would be able to steal sales away from E90?
You have to be worried, because E60 is a 3 year old car and it is doing very well and gaining market share despite going up against two new competitor in GS, and M from japan.

Yea, I just talked to the local dealer and shot them the Taiwan port pictures. They were surprised I knew soooo much more than they did! They reported their first ES would arrive in April.
I think after the debut it's fair game....

Don't single people out if their opinion is different from you.
I am simply posting data to the original poster stating that ES350 will steal sales away from 3 series is not going to happen because IS has not been able to do it despite aiming at 3 series directly head on.
I have defened you in the past on other forum. I failed to see where this is off topic.

I' ve seen at least 4 or 5 used 3 series outside my local Lexus dealer's lot at one time traded for the IS250/350, so there's absolutely no doubt that the new IS has taken away some BMW customers. Yes, the new 3 series is doing very well as to be expected for a model that's been out for less than a year compared with the previous 3 's in it's final years. Without the new IS, the 3 will sell even more than it is right now, the luxury car market has been growing constantly.
Yes the IS250/350 is taking away customers from MB, Audi ,Infinti as well, & as I have said before, the IS can still be very successful without taking away customers from any particular brand, all it needs is t0 take "some" from every other competitors.
Back on topic, on the ES350, which is NOT a direct competitor of the 3 series.
Before 2005, when the ES330 is in it final year, the ES had been the best selling luxury name plate SEDAN for at least a couple years, & the TL also. The new ES350 could achieve that again .

Also no info on it at Lexus.jp, although that could change soon...I assume the "Windom" will go with the New ES? Or not...maybe they'll treat the ES like Lexus Australia/UK/elsewhere has...?
