Default first complaint after two days of driving

I just picked up my Blue Onyx on Monday night, and I love the car, and the color. The only complaint i have is the amount of cup holders in this car. My Accord hybrid has 4 cup holders for the front passengers. The ES only has two. I like to put couple bottles of waters in the front. I guess i can't do it now. Other than that, i love the car.

Wow. If that's your only complaint, that really bodes well for the car. The Lexus ES has always had two, and that really conincides with demand. The vast majority of cup holders needed by the one to two front seat passengers is 2. So you're really in minority there. What everyone appears in agreement here in the forum on, so far, is that the cup holder redesign is a big improvement over the previous design in the 2001-2006 ES.

Speaking of cup holders, I read in the specs that the cup holders are illuminated.
What does this mean? There are no lights on my cup holders. Am I missing something?

there are two small lights on the roof, next to the door light switch.

I guess if you had the IS there are 2 bottle slots in the door pockets up front, and a SINGLE cup holder in the center...

I think the IS is more for the single driver (who might be active enough to carry water bottles around), while the ES with 2 cupholders in center for the driver and front passenger (who probably have Starbucks lattes or something). Maybe you can keep the water bottles in the back seat fold-down center armrest cupholders?

Cup holders mean a lot to my wife and I too. That is why we did not buy the ES330 last year. The two tiny thin plastic holders they had in the previous model were terrible. At least the ES350 had two normal cupholders that will hold two Starbucks easily.

You could fold down the rear center arm rest and place a couple of bottles there. I'm not sure they would hold in a panic stop.

My Avalon has bottle holders in the front side pockets as well as very deep center console holders that will hold any drinks even in a panic stop.

I tell you why I do need four cup holders. In my accord hybrid, i have four cup holders. I put two bottled water in the door cup holder for the driver and passenger. I use a big cup in one of the center cup holders as a trash can. I use the other center holder to hold my morning hot coffee or tea.

Drive the 2000-2001 ES300. It'll make you seriously appreciate your cup holders, as mine have almost gotten me killed.

I had to slam the brakes once because someone cut me off while in motion, and then quickly afterwards to stop for the light that was turning red (as well as another car in front of me). I had a water bottle in the cup holder, and the bottle flew out of the cup holder, and locked my brake pedal. I ended up luckily escaping without hitting anything, but an EXTREMELY scary scenario nonetheless.

The cupholders on that gen of ES very shallow, very flimsy, and don't have any grip of any sort on the bottom. I fixed this problem by putting some adhesive sand paper on the bottom of the cupholder.

I think Lexus figured if there are 2 people sitting in front, I guess we need 2 cupholders.

Maybe if the ES gets that bench seat option, we'll have 4 cup holders

The first thing I caught in the new ES though was the center console. That's a really cool design
