For me it was the overall value plus the reputation and the great gagets. The little problems with Benz and Bimmer that I saw happening to those around me really had me apprehensive. Most of those people did switch cars later on top of it.

Although, I must admit that I'm a bit nervous after reading about the wind noise and trasmission problems on some people's ES350. I hope mine is free of those issues.

E-class
the lowest priced MB E-class with the most basic options will run about $58k after taxes and licensing. That's $10k more than a fully loaded ES350 UL after taxes and licensing. Dang that's a huge difference. You just get so much more with a Lexus.

Celibon - congrats on your new car.
The trans problem seems isolated at this point to possibly the very first batch of cars that came out.
If you want to test for wind noise it's easy - windows up, radio off, seats set to not cool, then go 110km\h or faster. Listen and look straight ahead. If you become distracted by a noise, work out where its coming. If it sounds like its coming from 'somewhere around the window' then you've got your answer. If you do have an issue, go back and drive the dealer test car again. Perform the same test. Compare results. Is one better than the other?
At 100km\h I could have the PP radio set to volume 25 and still be distracted by the noise to my left.

Thanks. I hope mine doesn't have these issues. From what I've gathered, they don't surface until you've driven the car for a while. So I guess I'll just wait and see.
26 hours countdown till I get my car!
