Sorry But if your more into luxury purchase the ES.
Isnt the TL on the same platform as one of the Hondas? Like Accord? I'd pick a Camry over an Accord any day. In fact, my brother-in-law, who works for Honda, would only buy Toyota because he knows insider manufacturing info that most people dont know. In fact, his whole department of Honda employees drive Toyotas. Thats should say something about quality.

I had test-driven both, as my mom was looking for a new car and was considering these, among others.
What people say about luxury is pretty accurate.
The ride... Let's just say that if you like driving, you will not like the ES ride characteristics. If you prefer comfort and isolation while getting from point A to point B, ES is your ride.

Default Bought the 350

Drove a Premium Plus package today and loved the car, this was the tester car. Did not have my TP with black interior in stock with this package, but had a UL package in stock on the showroom floor in TP/black. I bought that one and pick it up Saturday. Added 3m clear bra and XM.

Thanks again for all of your opinions!!

Good choice MD 350.

You won't be sorry.

Other than the TL's nav (which is clearly superior) the ES blows it out of the water in pretty much every other respect.

Not the least of which is Lexus' unrivaled resale value.

And 0-60 in 6.2 in a "luxo-cruiser" ain't bad either!

I was not expecting to buy the UL package, still in a little shock on the price. But, the car is hot and I can't wait to pick it up.

The TL was very good to me, but I sure did see the difference on my test drive today. Hey, you get what you pay for. The TL was a great car for $30K. Now, time to move on up!

Having owned an '02 Acura TL-S...suffice it to say that the '07 ES 350 is much better as far as luxury and creature comforts are concerned; OTOH--the TL-S does ride a bit "tighter", handling-wise...and FWIW I don't know what the speed limiter is on the ES 350 but I do know first-hand what it was on my TL-S (150 mph).

I had a 2000 TL, 2003 TL type S, and then the 2004 TL. Two Accords prior in the 90's. Big move for me to go from Honda to Lexus. Yes, the ES does not drive as tight, but still did take the on ramps ok. It ain't a TL, but it ain't a Buick either. Pick up and go was fantastic. Seats and leather quality are superb. Quality seems fantastic.

Guys, did I miss something? To be fair, one needs to compare 2007 ES with 2007 TL, Acura just introduces a Type-S model that has a 3.5L engine that outputs 286 hp and 256 ft-lbs torque for $39K, choice of 6 speed manual transmission and 5 speed auto with paddle shift, and a sport-tuned suspension.
One article and couple of pictures. Not saying which one is better but just want to compare apple to apple.

Not apples to apples. Type-S is a special edition model. We should compare base 2007 TL to the ES 350.....

Apple to apple because it is what Acura offers for TL vs what Lexus offers for ES for 2007. Lexus has the choice expand its overall offering package by letting buyer to get IS350 and GS350's 2gr-fse but obviously that is not the case. Lexus' choice is to use only one engine, one tranny, and one suspension to target this markte segment. However, the ability to let buyer choose what he/she desires brings value to the total offering.

I know I'm bias, but why are we comparing Lexus to Acura? In my opinion, they are not even in the same league. Besides, GPS, Acura has nothing on Lexus; even just by brand, Lexus has a higher 'ranking' and generally noted as more prestige. But this is coming from a lexus owner =P

Ooh and an ES really isn't a 'driver's' car so really why are we comparing it to a TL which seems to aim for people who loves to race and take corners aggressively with their Type-S. How about IS350 fully loaded VS TL Type S fully loaded. That way, we have a racing car agains a racing car.

IS350 3.5L 305hp V.S. TL Type S 3.5L 286.

I looked at the IS, but it was too small for me and my family (two small kids). I also knew the type S was coming in 2007, but basically looks the same as my 04, so I was not that excited. I pick my new ES up later today!! Thanks again for all of your input.

Let's keep on topic, ES vs TL, it is not IS vs TL, or RL vs IS.
Don't forget it is not crank power that matters, it is power delivered to the wheels. No one can drive at one RPM point such as the RPM where peak power is measured, acceleration is much faster when your engine can operate the sweet RPM range that yield most power, and make sure most of that power is delievered to the wheels.
Automatic tranny introduces far more powertrain losses than manual. Manual is not what most people want but if you are talking about racing, the option of having manual gear gives driver better control of RPM shift point.
The other point I was trying to make is what if one try to compare the 2007 TL Type S with ES330 or previous generation ES300, it is also not fair to compare different years, especially different generations.
