Default The UL glass roof

The UL Glass roof is really cool. The service manager told me it actually traps less heat than the standard roof, so comparatively it should keep car interior slightly cooler. Neat. I notice that the 3 glass pieces that make up the roof are not completely flushed tight next to each other. Im sure this is the way it's designed, as all the ULs at the dealership had the gaps. Seems like rain or carwash water can get in between the gaps. How does the car keep water out of these gaps or away from the cabin? Are there any water channels under the glass but above the cabin? Anybody have any insights on these new roofs?

Well from what I can see from the trunk area and the sunroof opening the whole roof rests on a rubber seal that has channels for water to escape via the trunk area. Evidence of this annoys me, when I wash the car and dry it (I use a leaf blower) I can never get all the water out. Water spots always apear much later on the rear bumper.
I do notice that the car is somewhat cooler on the inside on a hot sunny day compared to my ES 300. And I don't think the roof can be dinged with a hail storm

Ahhh, so that's where my water spots come from...

Yesterday I put my glass roof to the test for the first time. I drove it through one of those brushless car washes. I slid the shade to the sun roofs open so I could feel any moisture. It passed the test. Even with the huge strong air blowers. I did see my windshield wipers lift a little when they went over. (They are still in the snow position and I live in sunny California - go figure.)

PDG810810 - OMG - a hail storm! I never even though about that.

Nice... as long as everything is kept dry thats cool. Ya i get water spots in the trunk area also....and often hours after the wash. I guess if someone at Lexus actually considered channeling water from roof, then i have no problems with the design.

Just got an pine cone bounce off of my roof this morning as i was driving. Tempered Glass = no dent.

Why in the world would Lexus sell a glass roof if it leaked? I certainly didn't buy the car thinking "I wonder if it leaks?"

the glass roof is sealed nicely... it as a rubber seal all the way around that closes so tightly it doesn't even let in wind noise at freeway speeds... perfect fit IMO! And man, when the sunroof is open it's just sexy...

I like how as you're closing the sunroof, it stops just before it closes. It's great for parking the car. I tried slipping my hand in there, and it doesn't fit. But it leaves the sunfroof open just a little bit to look good and ensure the car never gets hot.

I've got a black interior, and I can leav it for hours in this 100 dgree weather we're having and the car is never scorching hot inside...

Yes it's good, until it starts to rain...

ok everyone with a UL panaromic roof.... look at the middle section of your roof. Notice how the middle panel sits on a nice rubber seal. On the edge of the panel there is 1/4" of opening that is unsealed. It appears on both sides of the car. Now what happens when water gets into that opening? How does that channel out? through the trunk? And how does the dealer prevent the auto windshield wipe from coming on when car goes thru carwash? I am wondering now cus Im due for a carwash next week.

If you leave the windshield wiper stalk all the way up to the top......right below the mist position, your rain sensing wipers won't activate.

How about just turning the wipers off?

That's the exact position as I said in the above post, where the wipers are turned off, but the next click down will put the auto sensing wipers in operational mode. Some members are not too sure about the stalk position, and that's the explanation.

mine has always been all the way up. no wonder the auto wipers didnt come on today when it rained. so the auto position is the next one down i assume (according to diagram). So by default it is in off position. I bet those numbskulls at the dealership dont even check before putting car thru carwash. i bet they dont even check if windows and moonroof are closed either.
