Default An old f_rts response.

Look at it this way, most of us old folks (I'm 70) want to stay young at heart. Buying a sporty car is one way I can feel younger.

Most of you young people profess to wanting to live a long prosperous life. Most of you exercise- sometimes fanatically, stay slim, watch the fats, etc.etc.

Get ready for the big disappointment of having the young generation dump on you for still being alive if your over 60.

There is a disconnect here somewhere.

Based on that scanned pie chart, and some rough calculations I did, average ES buyer age is about 53. That's lower than the Avalon, and I believe lower than the last-gen ES as well. Don't forget Baby Boomers possess a huge amount of money, compared to younger people. Also, IS average buyer age is a lot lower, I forget the exact number. Couple of years back, average Avalon buyer age was around 65, so Toyota is achieving it's goals of lowering average age for it's new models.

She IS buying a cool car. The ES350 is a stylin' luxury ride. Does the fact that people over 50 own it make it any less beautiful outside, comfortable inside, technologically up-to-date, safe, reliable, or anything else? The car stands on its own merits, no matter who is driving it.

My first car at age 18 was a Buick. My current car is definitely not a Buick.

Anything your parent's generation likes is uncool, by definition. I'm sure she'll feel better when/if her car ever arrives... we're in week four of waiting.

It's not too late. If she wants, you guys can cancel the order on the ES and get an IS or some other brand of car that's cool.

Nah, she only thinks she wants a cool car. She has no interest in driving fast, feeling the road, or hearing the engine. The Infiniti or BMW are much cooler, but she just wants to be coddled. The ES is definitely the right car for her, but she'd be happier if Paris Hilton was driving one instead of Betty White.

FWIW, my car is even less cool, and arguably the least cool car you can buy -- a Volvo XC90. I'm a huge nerd, though.

I was too much of a gentleman to mention your Volvo in a discussion of what consitutes a cool car. Both the Lexus and Volvo are good cars and cool in their own way.

Bah humbug! The previous generation liked sex and invented Star Trek. I'm cool with both.

Bob,
Your dealership is lying to you. The trans problem is HUGE for Lexus no matter how big or small your dealership is. My father-in-law got a replacement car from Lexus for his trans problem!!!!

I think its a cool SUV. I dont see the Lexus SUV's any more cooler (well the LX470 is on another level). I used to drive one everyday when I worked at Volvo. XC90 T6 with all the options in Titanium Grey with the complete accessory package. I thought the truck was cool as hell. And so did my friends and a crap load of chics. And I was 20 at the time (now 22).

Point is, if you like it, think its cool, and it fits your needs then that is great!! I sure had a lot of fun driving that truck around.
