Since I have the cold engine knock, I call mine an ES 350 TDI

I am eyeing those ES350 numbers on the right rear flank and thinking about switching them around a bit.....

Don't get too worried, but when the car is cold and you drive off it sounds like a diesel for the first 5 mins during warm up. Dealer says it is normal, but my other cars have never done it. Only some owners have the issue.

If you have the car already, several things would be apparanet to you by now if they were present in your car, excessive wind noise and the diesel engine knocking sound by now would have been noticed by you as you do not need to have read about them on here to be aware of them. So don't worry about those if you have not noticed anything. That leaves the transmission and there are several threads and a video demonstrating it you can review.

Do you mean you can hear the knocking sound when you sit in the car or you stand outside? I can't hear anything inside the car.
I heard doing windows tint can make some insulation bad , so I didn't tint my windows. I don't know what's your situation about wind noise.

When sitting in the car you can easily hear the knocking/tapping and no tinting is needed to add it or the wind noise either for that matter.

Maybe I'm lucky, my ES is deadly quiet even @75-80 MPH , no wind noise nor knocking noise.

My GS 300 had dash and window frame rattles at its 4 years old, it was really annoying. I went to Fremont Lexus, the dealer wouldn't fix it freely, this made me so angry and frustrated, when I turned to Stevens Creek Lexus, they had no problem to fix all the rattles freely.

If the owners have rattle, noise in their loving cars, I can feel how frustrated they are, I really hope they can shop around more dealers and get problem fixed.

good luck to them.

ff..welcome..

If your car is literally brand new, as in very low miles, low RPM flare of more or less 200 RPM can be how they start, building to much higher within roughly a few weeks, miles added on depending. Keep an eye on it and for further review go to list of TSIB at top of forum last few pages to read the January released transmission TSIB.

Do you mean every ES will have this flare eventually?

No one really knows. What is known is that it can start out small and builds up (gets worse) from there. If it's flaring at all - that is not a good sign.

Like Wanderer said....not all transmissions will do this. However, mine started out with small flares and gradually the flares became larger to the point where they were consistently around 500-600 RPM. When I was accelerating onto the freeway, the flares would sometimes be 1500 RPM.

Just keep keep your eye on it.

Thumbs up

Well I've waited a couple of months before voting and posting on this thread. I wanted to spend some time with the vehicle before I jumped out and voted for "No Problems" based only on my initial observations.

After two months, 3,800 miles, and two road trips (600+ miles round trip), I have not experienced a single problem listed on this poll.

A couple of weeks ago, I got to spend 24 hours with an ES350 PP loaner. On a day with 30+ MPH winds, my ES was caught in the rear passanger door by a plastic shopping cart at Scott Air Force Base. This resulted in four door dings which were taken care of by my dealership in one day, thus giving me an chance to drive another ES for more than a test. I'm happy to report that the black 08/07 build loaner also has none of these problems (maybe I should have voted twice ).
