Been doing that for years, well since they added the Trip A & B function. Comes in very handy.
FWIW - I'm old fashioned, oil gets changed about every 3K or 3 months whichever occurs first. the trip B meter is handy, especially considering I did my first oil change a little over 1200 miles.
I don't trust... Idiot Lights, Owner's Manuals and especially Dealership formulated Recommended Service Intervals.
