Los Angeles (or any big city) traffic is hard on the car. I commute 1 hour to work at average 15 miles per hour. I drive home at about 16 miles per hour average. I imagine some residues get stuck in the inners of the car during the weekdays, so on weekends I try to drive on Hwy 2 @ 85 mph to burn off all the residues and loosen the bearings a bit. My dad used to do that with his Maxima, and that's how he explained to me. Are there any advantages to letting your car run freely a few times a week, or am I just imagining the advantages? I find it really fun to drive fast on an empty highway.... this car is so smooth at high speeds its incredible.

FWIW - - I am a FIRM believer that you need to "blow it out" from time to time... You needn't drive on the hiway to do this, just launch from a stop light once in awhile. This also goes along with my theory that when buying a used car, the one that's 4 years old with 50K on the odometer will be a better car in the long run than the same model/year car with only 20K on the odometer.
Cars were meant to be driven and if you weren't supposed to run the damn thing at 6500 RPM every now and then, they'd limit the revs to something like 4K....Which reminds me, I need to go "blow out" the wife's Ferd Freestar... I do this in the driveway where I slam the accelerator to the floor while in park, there's a rev limiter that holds it at 4500 RPM. You should see the crap fly out the tailpipe! I could do the same thing driving it, but that's damn embarrassing!
