Default Quality issues related to build plant?

I've been following the saga of some of you inflicted with build quality issues with your ES, and really feel for you. I'm getting ready to take delivery of a GS350, and am hoping for the best. One thing I've noticed on CL (purley qualitative, not quantitative) is that the GS and LS (LS430, too early to tell on 460) seem to experience far fewer complaints regarding basic quality issues like rattles, squeaks, wind noise, etc., than the ES or IS. I was browsing Lexus.com the other day and came across a page that states where each vehicle is built, and noticed that the ES and some IS are built at the Kyushu plant, while some IS are also built at the Tahara plant where the LS and GS are built.

So, I'm curious if Lexus is experiencing a higher defect rate coming out of their Kyushu plant than they are the Tahara. Perhaps we could enlist IS owners with and without problems to determine which plant their car was built in to see if there are any statistically valid results? If the plant build is identifiable on the vehicle, perhaps a poll would be appropriate.

Anyway, just a thought. I hope those with problems can get them resolved to your satisfaction quickly. I know how frustrating new car problems can be. I haven't been satisfied with my Infiniti G35x, hence the reason I'm switching to Lexus.

Best of luck everyone.

Model Production Location
LS Tahara
GS Tahara
GS Hybrid Tahara
ES Kyushu
IS Kyushu and Tahara

sbrown,

We will never know the answer to your curiosity about build plants but since you observed both the IS and ES seem problematic compared to the GS it makes sense one plant has more defects than the other.

When you are told a vehicle with a valve problem represents the normal performance of ES350, excessive wind noise does as well and transmissions that slip are normal and just learning, the level of BS Lexus involves itself in indicates there will be no admission a plant has more defects than another that we will see admitted by Lexus to us.

Those of us with wind noise issues and diesel engine knocking and tapping are stuck with them, period.
