Default Oil Change Prices

I'm just wondering how much your local Lexus dealer charge for an oil change. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and my local dealer charges $100cdn for an oil change My jaw almost dropped when the sales manager told me, because I got a lifetime oil change from my Nissan dealer when I purchased my Pathfinder...

Glock;
Those prices are a rip off. Dealers get away with it because some customers think their warrantee is jeopardized if the dealer does not perform the work with Lexus supplied parts and oil. Also included is the cost of a loaner.

If you must have the dealer change the oil, refuse the loaner and have them deduct its value...usually about $25 to $30. Alternatively you can have Canadian Tire or Mr. Lube change the oil and filter for about $40. If you must have a Lexus oil filter, buy a supply from the parts department and take the filter to Canadian Tire when the oil change is done. Do not pay $100...it only encourages them.

My local garage does my Lincoln LS: 7 quarts of Mobil 1 - $48.86
Oil Filter -$9.95
Fuel Injection Cleaner - $3.89
Labor - $7.25
Total - $74.15 w/ tax
My Lexus dealer will get the initial 5,000 mile free oil change and after that, to my local garage. They keep the oil change records in their computer system to back up any possible warranty claims.

The newer 350 engines have different design oil filters, and use more oil in the crankcase.

Don't be surprised on one to two hundred for an oil and filter change at Lexus.

Makes one want to learn how to DIY.

I addition to going to a good independent shop, you can also check the pricing at a Toyota dealership. I'm guessing that an oil and filter change would be less than next door at the Lexus store. Same engine, capacities, filter etc.

It's not too difficult at all (ES 350 oil and filter change)...and definitely not complicated enough for any shop--factory dealership or otherwise--to warrant charging near $100 for an oil and filter change (I'm not saying that all dealerships charge such an amount--I was alluding to glock22x's post)...not unless they're including other services along with it. Draining the oil pan is a piece of cake (I found where the oil drain plug is), and from the looks of things it would initially appear that the ES 350 oil filter can be removed w/o the need of that "special" $49 oil filter removal tool...and even if said tool is required, the access to the oil filter is no more difficult than that to the oil drain plug. Heck--if you provide me the oil and oil filter, I'd be willing to change the oil on your ES 350 for only a 6-pack...of soda (since I don't drink).

Now if people are willing to pay the $100 for a Lexus oil and filter change solely for warranty peace of mind...go right ahead--it's their money, and apparently they have plenty of it to blow. Or maybe it's not their money so they don't care if they have to pay that much for a simple job.

Notwithstanding the reason(s) you choose to pay someone else to change the oil in your vehicle, I will offer that two 5-gallon jugs of Mobil-1 can be had at Walmart for less than what you're being charged by your garage for 7 quarts of the stuff...roughly $5 less, IIRC.

Last time I was going for an oil change on my wife's Highlander, Toyota dealership told me they are certified to do ES350 oil change since its the same as Camry. After 5k service, I will be getting mine for $32 over at Toyota next door to my Lexus dealership For a free carwash and deli sandwiches, I can go any weekend to my dealership.

Will NOT use synthetic oil in the Lexus as it did not matter one bit when we advertised / discussed our Town Car with potential buyers. Price / cleanliness were the overiding concerns. I will do the 5,000 miles oil / filter change per Lexus specification with the required oil weight / quality on the ES350 versus 4,000 miles / 3 months with the departed Town Car. I will continue to use Mobil One in our Lincoln LS and Mountaineer but have extended the oil / filter change frequency from the 4,000 miles / 3 months to the Ford specification of 5,000 miles as changing over from synthetic to non synthetic is not recommended.
