I understand that some of you have cars that work fine, but it is inexcusable to sell a $40k car with these kinds of issues that affect more than an isolated number of situations. I'm going for the transmission replacement, but I would prefer to get out and away from Lexus altogether.

I highly reccomed that prospective purchasers think carefully about how you would feel if these problems happened to you. It's not fun, and in my opinion, the things I like about the car (and there's plenty I like) do not offset the issue of dealing with a new transmission at 5,000 miles, and the stress of fighting with Lexus and the dealership to have them do what's right.
gpension,

That is disgusting the way you have been treated. They know all about the standard offer of 100k warranty or they darn well should. And with that car you need that kind of warranty so it isn't like you are being given a freebie or anything.

I hope your experience with Lexus corporate is light years better than my own with them, which was awful.

gpension - please let us know how this works out for you - both in trans repair (did it work!) as well as the extended warranty.

I said this earlier in the discussion - Lexus really falls down on this repair stuff. Sure, eventually it gets resolved after you force things to happen, call Lexus Corporate, etc. But by that point you're frustrated and annoyed.

I've been away for a few days in the BC interior and just returned. The transmission in my vehicle has been flawless. I drove 1000kms through the worst weather I've ever seen - whiteouts, heavy snow build up, black ice and heavy blowing snow. Highways were closed, and I had to detour for 3 hrs up some other highway which wasn't even plowed in most parts. It was damned frightening at some points. But the car and trans were fantastic. Never missed a beat. No 'learning' cycle, no slipping gears. Temps were -28c for some of the time, -20c+ for the remainder which I consider to be really cold. Even the cold temps didn't affect the trans. I knew that a transmission could behave like this. At no point was I wondering what the trans was doing, it just worked.

This is one sweet 5 speed.... oops - no, this wasn't the ES. This was a Hertz rental Volvo XC70!

At first I thought, well he finally snapped, he's gone over the deep end and thinks all the stuff is normal and then I read the above ending part, too funny.

Let me guess, it also had no diesel engine knocking tapping either and had no...

Well, you can add osokuko to the list now. It finally happen. Today was my appointment at the service center to test for my flare issue. The prognoses is my car has AIDS! They will order and install the magic cure all “Valve Body” next week to save my trany (here we go). Actually I should be ranting and raving over this, but I think we’ve been beating this horse to death for such a long time now that it’s come down to lets just get this over with and move on. So I’ll let everyone know how it goes, but than again we already know the last chapter huh. Cover me boys I’m going in!

Just brought my car in for the TSIB today. Secretary talked to the service manager in the back and he didn't even come out....yet to speak to him in person. Took my license, credit card info and brought me over to one of their "service professionals" who wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Didn't even know what the problem was and had me explain it again. When I told her there wasn't a single scratch or dent on the car upon me dropping it off she stated ok, but had already closed the ticket and did not enter any more information. When I asked the genius how long it would be, she told me "it depends on what parts we ordered; the initial service rep you dealt with will call you". Loaner car is a base ES350, has scratches all over, used tissues in the ash tray, and 1/8 tank of gas. It will be interesting when they attempt to blame me for the scratches. I should take photos of the dents/scratches but don't feel like wasting another minute of time dealing with problems related to a new car. The loaner shifts smoothly but hesitates slightly when hitting the gas; which I guess is just normal for our car. That's all the info I have so far....will post again when the TSIB fails, car is damaged, or when I have any more updates. I am hoping none of the former will occur, but won't hold my breath.

In my area they have a diagram of the car when you drop it off and where you check it for scratches, dings, dents, coming and going both your own car and the loaner.

Wonder how they would have treated you if they thought they were doing you a big favor as from the sound of it, they are stand-off-ish as it is.

They should have introduced you to service manager etc., when buying the car and that wasn't just to say hello...LOL..it was so he or she could interact with you directly over an issue like a trans problem on a brand new car.

Never met the service manager and in fact whish I never had to meet anyone concerning servicing of a new car. The second service rep seemed to have a bug up her behind, and the others just seemed nonchalant....like they could really care less about the situation. I should have mentioned this in my initial post but the valet did have a diagram of the loaner - no diagram for my car though. He walked around and didn't note anything. I showed him each scratch and made sure he put them down. Then I gave him a tip and left with the scratched car and infectious disease infested tissues all over.

The survey you will get in the mail from Lexus corporate will ask were you introduced to service manager etc.,

Yeah it is more of a hassle because it is a brand new car and should not be happening at all so the least they could do is be sure and be warm and friendly toward you.

I'm eye'ing the survey that I received from the dealer but haven't filled it out yet. Still waiting for the corp survey. I'm sure they really don't care about the results from one person but I'll fill it out honestly!

The dealer will care if you indicate on corporate survey you were not introduced to service dept manager, they will see it and it will not look good for them, they get a rating as a dealer based on survey responses.

I wish you the best, maybe because you have an idea of the process from reading on here, you might be better prepared to deal with the hassle of this happening.

Just got a call from the dealer 5 minutes ago. He stated that one of the parts they ordered was incorrect and they will need to keep the car for a few days! Also stated they don't want to release the car while the transmission is not functioning properly! I'm not surprised!

Well, they sure do not seem to be organized there, or they realized that they needed more time to do your car after you left and had been told or implied some other time frame, so they came up with that.
