Ok... it was 53 degrees out this morning. VERY COLD by los angeles standards. Got into my car and coasted down the windy hill. Got to the main street, looked around for cops, then accelerated to test the flare. The rpm would gradually get to 3000 and then change gear, back to 2000, (3rd gear), then it would rev to 3000 rpm and change gear (4th) back to 2000. Everything went smooth as expected...no spike like in the video... rpm never went passed 3000. I assume I passed the flare/slippage test...
Now...I can artificially create the rpm spike. I did it by accident once but was able to re-create it purposely. I would accelerate to 3000 rpm, let go of the gas pedal completely for 3 seconds, and then press hard on gas. As the car downshifts, at the right moment between gears, you punch the gas and it causes the rpm to pike to 3000 instantly. I dont think there was slippage.... Feels more like a hiccup. This isnt the best action for your car, but definitely shows that you can spike your rpm without having a flare problem.

Kauis,
Uh, that is normal for the car, in fact for many cars that would happen if you took your foot of the gas first as you did.
That might be called .....created artificial operator error.... or an everyday occurance for out of towners near the attractions like Disney World who think they missed their exit, coast a second and then slam on it when they realize, nope they didn't miss it..

You could also accellerate and then at the right momment shift into nuetral and then slip it back into drive?
I believe the term 'artificial' in this sense would be more accurately described as 'fake out.'

In my limited transmission experience (twice in my memory), one flare happened exactly like what you just described.. where I let go of the gas pedal for a while and then press the gas pedal hard. I guess i just confused the machine then...
