Piston Slap early RX 350
[I'm new to this forum, have a 2007 RX 350 65k miles just into the dealer for service and review of knocking noise that to my hot rodding ears was a dose of piston slap at the colder temps and lessening as engine warmed up. Dealer's service manager was finally brought in and explained that shortened piston skirt on the 350 engine gave better performance, and that later 350's use an offset piston pin to minimize the noise caused by the piston at colder temps (ie skirt clearance until engine is warmed). Made perfect sense to me and I was satisfied and made it a point in the record should I experience issues down the road past power train warranty. Tom

well, one of the senior service advisors f'td up and told me it was indeed the VVTI cam gear issue recall but that he couldn't fix it do there being no check engine light per Toyota.
Does your engine sound like this, because THIS isn't typical forged piston slap.

Drove a used 2009 ES350 with 19,000 miles and a used 2008 RX350 with 22,000 miles at the local Lexus dealership, looking to replace my '07 Impala SS. Both vehicles started up from cold first thing in the morning, both had same cold engine noise as my '07 ES350.
It's the "350" Lexus experience.
