I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think with a moonroof the panel covering the opening in the roof, which retracts is tinted glass which you can see thru when closed. On a sunroof the panel is metal (or vinyl covered!) and the same color as the roof of the car. Most cars these days have moon roofs, and sun roofs were found on older cars. I'm sure someone can correct me or add to this if I have it wrong.

A good explanation.

100% correct. I had a 1974 Cougar XR-7 with the sunroof, which the movable panel was vinyl coated steel, to match the landau vinyl top.

We had an early 80's Accord with a moonroof. It was a top of the line XL-i model (I think those were the letters), which meant it had the moonroof, and the i stood for fuel injection. Sounds funny now, but was a big deal then!

Wow. And all this time I thought it depended on whether you were in the car during the daytime or at night.

I think it was "LX-i"

Later became the "EX" - now labled "EX-L" for those with navigation (on paper only, the physical badges on the car still says "EX")

You're correct LexusGuy. Thanks for refreshing my memory. I think the i model was packing all of 114 hp or so, and the non i's had 95-100 hp.

ahh, yes. Thanks for the correction!

That's weird. In Canada, the EX-L label is given to an EX model (Accord 4-cylinder or CR-V) that has leather.. hence the "L" haha.
