Default Hot Air??

Any other owners receive this solicitation from their dealer?

"Compressed air can be a tires worst nightmare. Air is usually oily and wet, a nasty combination that over time destroys tire rubber compounds - not an issue with NitroFil, which contains less that 2% oxygen and is completely moisture free. Tires will stay at a consistent psi and will not be influenced by external forces of heat and cold.

Here are some benefits with using nitrogen:

Better fuel consumption and more miles to the gallon

Extended tire life and increased tire mileage - Tires last up to 25% longer

Smoother ride with better handling, braking and steering

Fewer breakdowns, blowouts and tire fatigue

Better stability and decreased rolling resistance

Did you know 90% of tire related accidents are caused by under inflated tires?

Did you know under inflated tires can adversely affect braking, handling and steering?

Operating a vehicle with just 1 tire under inflated can affect gas mileage and reduce that tires life by 10,000 miles.

Also, according to Michelin and Goodyear, running tires at 20% under inflation can reduce the tires life by up to 50% and affect fuel consumption by 30%.

The U.S.Department of Energy reports that 4 million gallons of gasoline are lost every day due to low tire pressure. Every day! You’ll burn 10% more fuel if 1 tire is just 5 lbs. low.

So, what are you waiting for? If you own anything with wheels that previously had air in them, it makes great sense to use NitroFil. To learn more about filling your tires with nitrogen, click here.

No, I have not, but any gas, including nitrogen, will expand and contract as a function of temperature.

$50!!!

Unless the dealer offers it for free IMHO it's not worth it. The biggest reason nitrogen doesn't expand and contract as much as air (approx 80% nitrogen and 20% O2) is it does not hold moisture. I used nitrogen for my son's racing go-cart and my SCCA GT-2 car to keep handling more consistent through a race. I had my own cylinder of Nitrogen and still didn't use it for the street cars. Just check your tires once a month, which a person should do or have done anyway regardless of what gas is in the tires. I've never had a rim or tire corrode or rot from using air and I've been mounting and balancing my tires for years.

Costco offers nitrogen free of charge when you purchase tires from them.

What BillP said...there may be some benefits from filling your tires w/ (mostly) nitrogen, but definitely not worth paying $50 for, IMHO.

The nitrogen benefits are almost completely overstated and some go against the laws of physics. There's no way you'll get better gas mileage, for example. And remember, air is already 78.09% nitrogen.

Just use a good quality compressor and regular air.
