Default Nav v6.1 suddenly going crazy!

Our nav disk was replaced and updated to version 6.1 by the dealer a month or so ago and has been fine until two days ago. Suddenly, it can't find our location - it thinks it's a third of a mile in one direction, a mile in the other, whatever and jumps around not being able to actually pinpoint where the car is travelling.

I've had four nav units, three original equipment and one Garmin, and have never had anything like this go on. I've manually calibrated, but no joy. Anyone having similar experience with this or any other version?

Default Title: Navigation System - Shows Vehicle in Wrong Location

I think this is covered under the Nav TSIB on our master list of TSIBs for the ES350.

If you follow the TSIB link for this it shows what vehicles were affected, and what the Disc number should be on the 3rd page of the document.

i believe it is the antennae that may be the problem (unrelated to having the disc changed). the reciever is located in front of the dash behind the windshield, have lexus look over it

Although TSIB EL013-06 concerns exactly the symptoms that ckon is experiencing, it specifically states that it is not applicable to any vehicle that has had a Gen 5 update disk manufactured after 11/06 installed. It seems likely that since Toyota releases their annual update in the late fall, that a 6.1 mapdata disk should also include the revised operating system referred to in the TSIB as well. One way to find out for sure is to follow the procedure in the manual to eject the disk and take a look! (You have to slide up the cover on the slot before pressing "eject" on the touch screen) Even if the numbers on the disk appear to be incomprehensible, a quick call to the dealer should sort them out and answer the question.

I just had the TSIB procedure done two weeks ago and the part number specified in the TSIB contains the "old" (last years) 5.1 mapdata.

The TSIB link to ALLDATA requires a subscription to get any information. Any other way to access the information??

How much does LEXUS charge for the version 6.1 upgrade?

UPDATE: The dealer reports that Lexus says it's the v. 6.1 nav disk that's causing our problem. (FWIW, our nav now shows driving in the middle of the Detroit river!)!!

There's a 2-3 week backorder for the disks. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

I have to add here that I'm finally reaching the end of my rope here re: forgiving both Lexus and my dealer for their stupid little mistakes that have added up to the worst automotive experience I've had in forty years!

I have really loved the car and my problems have individually been minor, but add them all up and I'm read to buy a Hyundai!

It is not the antenna.

It really makes no sense to me that it's the disk since the error varies. I'd expect a different behavior from software.

Since the whole dash was pulled apart to repair the rattles near the speaker, it wouldn't surprise me if it did turn out to be the antenna or something mechanical. Also, it doesn't seem like much troubleshooting was done. We'll see, I guess.

It seems that if it was the 6.1 disk the problem would have started right away and would have showed at least SOME kind of consistant error.
