Question Horsepower boost

I'm new to the ES and enjoy it very much, but I am used to gobs of horsepower (400+). While I'm not looking to build a rocketship, is there any way to tweak the HP on the ES 350?

You bought the wrong type of car if you expect to do what you intend on doing. There are NO upgrades for this engine as of yet.

Most of the 3.5 liter FWD cars like this (Avalon, ES, TL, Maxima, Altima etc.) have just about all of the hp the FWD platform can handle. Any more hp and torque steer would be real bad.

There are no aftermarket upgrades for the ES. You should've gotten the IS if you want to do heavy modding. The ES is a comfortable family sedan.

That's why our second car is the Impala SS. Faster, slightly rougher than the ES350. The ES350 is plenty quick and can do 140 mph. How do I know this? I did a search on www.youtube.com for Lexus ES350 and these two guys have a video of their ES350 pegging the 140 mph mark

If you want to get anywhere near that range with the 2GR-FE, be prepared for the following.

1. voided warranty

2. Maybe locating and ordering a TRD superchager from Australia?

3. Have a custom turbo(s) fitted?turboneticsinc

4. Stiffen the rear suspension considerably

5. Buy a lot of asprin

6. Get really, really creative - It's help if you have experience or at least desire to learn and solve problems

.... and the list goes on.

Would be hella saaaweet though, very unique! And even though it's FWD, don't let anyone fool you, HP is never a limitation! FWIW - I have thoughts of converting my TL to RWD.

I saw this when I first posted but didn't have time to do a youtube... NE-way, I'm surprised to say the least.... I've sworn up and down the Camry and the ES were twins under the bonnet? Now that I think of it, I haven't seen any V6 or XLE Camrys with a speedo shot, so maybe this is an "SE V6" deal...

My SE V6 easily surpassed the 140 mark and was just about to tickle 150 (I've called it 147 in the past) before I ran out of 'margin,' no sign of a limiter so I've believed the claimed 162 governed limit.

My point... The ES is governed lower?

What is the speed rating on the stock ES tires, anyone?

That's complete bull****. Torque steer is a function of axle & suspension geometry. No more talking until you know better. lol

Roctman how much money do you have, how much peak power do you want, and what kind of powerband do you want it to look like.

It is the traction control fighting with itself upon all out acceleration. My Impala SS suffers from it bad when floored.

I do this this tho - It makes no sense at all to mod a brand new car (especially a FWD near luxury/family car) that's under warranty to gain more performance. You'd void the warranty and then have people starting a thread about their dealer who won't replace their blown engine under warranty.

before you know it, we'll see 306hp fwd toyos.

speaking of hp, the 272hp feels really weak after driving the new infiniti g35. I don't know if it's due to the drive-by-wire. The g35 has tons of kick, and is about as quiet as the current ES.

If the above is indeed true, then one or more of the following could be considered a valid statement:

1) The electronically limited top (track) speed of 137 mph that's documented on Lexus' website is incorrect;
2) The displayed speed on the speedo is not truly indicative of the vehicle's actual speed (I assume the video is showing the speedo indiciating 140 mph, rather than displaying it on a portable GPS?);
3) They have discovered a way to disable the speed limiter on the ES 350.

Not to downplay the fact that the ES 350 is plenty fast, but for me to believe that it can actually do 140 mph--contrary to what Lexus states in its' literature--I would be more inclined to believe so if they had documented such a speed w/ a portable GPS.

In their test of the ES350, Car & Driver reported a governor limited top speed of 139. Not sure of their procedure, but that's what appeared in the recap of their review.

The governor is set to 139 mph according to the owners manual.

162 for the Clamry.... Why are you ES guys getting ripped off?

Nobody knows the speed rating of their tires?

FWIW - TL shuts off at 150, a big disappointment IMO.
