For the Genesis V8 Hyundai shows the hp/torque ratings using both regular and premium (385 prem/378 reg).

Makes it nice for the driver to decide which they want to use. The V6 is rated using regular only (333 hp).

For the record. Whenever we have a model in for a recall or campaign we ALWAYS top off the tank with Premium and we have to provide the paperwork from the filling station to prove it. If we don't, we get yelled at in a big way because Lexus will not reimburse the dealership for the campaign/recall work. I assume this is how all Lexus dealerships are required to do it but I have not confirmed with other shops.

Hopefully you didn't open up the can of worms here but this has been debated a lot. The net is , regular 87 oct. is no problem. When Lexus said it was OK to use reg. gas it just lowered the HP from 272 to 268 so no big deal. Some say gas mileage is better with premium but others say no difference. So anyway that you go it won't hurt the car unless you buy crap gas. Stick with the major brands that have good detergent qualities and you'll be OK

Nope. I'm on my 3rd ES 350 and have always used regular with zero issues. Don't waste your money.

Cool

on a road trip, I might get a mile or two better on 91/93 - - the chemistry of it is that it burns more efficiently-- but I'm not sure that for in-town or a mix of driving that the 30+ cents/gallon makes a justifiable difference and the car's computer adjusts the timing/firing for any change.

Use whatever you want......it's your car. But be aware that the manufacturers program/map the ignition timing so that the engine should not detonate/ping/knock under any operating conditions (particularly at high power to protect the engine from damage) using the RECOMMENDED fuel, and WITHOUT having the knock sensors/ECM used to retard the timing to prevent detonation/pinging. If you do use regular gas with the 2010 and prior cars, use some common sense.......if you hear pinging, or have bogging/hesitation on acceleration (the hesitation could indicate that the ignition timing has been retarded by the ECM), and there are no other issues, then fill up with a higher octane fuel and see if that eliminates the problem. Just be aware that pinging that may occur at high power may not be heard by the driver because of other noises. The primary difference between the lower octane gas and the higher octane gas is that the higher octane gas has better anti-knock qualities (historically required with "higher compression" engines), but with some oil companies (Shell oil here where I live, for example), the 87 octane gas has 10% ethanol, the 89 octane has 5% ethanol, and the 91 & 94 octane has zero ethanol. Ethanol has a lower heat value than gas & doesn't help mileage. Also, some, if not all oil companies add more additives to their higher octane gasolines than what they add to their lower octane gasolines.

^^great explanation right there.

its your car and you can use what you like, just be aware. But in reality, unless you do a TON of driving, its an extra few bucks every fill up. you are driving a luxury car.

Premium fuel is no longer required. You are good with 87.

you can use regular 87 even in the 2007 or 08's
they have the same engine as a toyota camry and toyota doesnt recommend premium for the camry's but does for lexus, which is purely for image
