Thought it would be a good idea to create a new poll after the release of the TSIB

My brother's ES350 has never had the problem. I keep asking him just in case it needs to be addressed, but he has no qualms about it...

I had a loaner that was a 12/06 build, so I have experienced the flare. BUT, so far (1500 miles) - the one I bought has not had any issues. Of course, this is what I have come to expect from Lexus. (Not to mention, even if I had issues, my dealer is great {Stevinson Frederick, CO} and would probably do anything it would take to keep me happy).

Okay, we've had our ES for six months now. It's been driven in everything from ice and snow in Illinois to pouring thunderstorms in Texas to summer heat and humidity in Mississippi. The 7,000+ miles on it have been a mixture of everything from sit-and-go Saint Louis rush-hour traffic to wide open three number (sshhh, don't tell any cops) running on the freeways. Through it all, we haven't had a single peep outta this car, as far as problems go, including the tranny flare that I've been on the lookout for since before we bought our ES.

Months 6 - Flares 0

I Love My ES350!!!!!!

Ahhh.....What a pleasure to hear some positive reports from ES350 owners.
I've had my ES350 since May, 2006....a 3/06 build, and can report the same degree of satisfaction!

Our UL has been absolutely flawless since day one.
We have taken it on several long trips...Ms to Houston and Ms to Kansas. We enjoy it more and more each day. It's great to hear some positive posts for a change. The ES is truly an amazing car.

At about 9800 miles, I experienced 3-4 gear flare about 500 -600 rpms. Just once a day, within first mile under light acceleration. The transmission was flashed today. build date is 02/07. The service order says TC007 06. However, the service manager told me the it is the latest update which came out few days ago.
I tried to find the latest TSb but could not find it. Any one can provide the link to latest one. would test my vehicle in coming days for flare.

Thumbs down not so lucky

Have had my es since dec 24th 06 have had the flare problem from day 1, its gotten worse . Now its several times a day from the early on once a day. Have not had the loud engine noise untill lately but now I can add that to my list of problems. Today another problem started, it cuts off at start up and I have to restart it and give it gas to keep it running. Bottom line my car sucks!!!!!

I would say no, I am waiting to here some more positive feedback on success before I let Lexus start playing around with my car again.

My dad's car has the flare, my father didnt even notice it when it happened with me in the car and the next day I duplicated it so I know its there. He also has the flare in the first gear when braking, the rpms go down to about 800 then jump up to 12-1500 and you can feel the car lurch a bit. This he did notice and brought to my attention long time back when the car had less than 1000 miles. Suffice to say his transmission is a mess, but the good part is, he can care less and keeps on driving the car. He said he'll go to the dealer when he can get to it and its no big deal to him....wow!

I suspect most owners are like your Dad. Drive a mushy car and don't really care about performance. More into luxury and quiet.

I think all cars have a lot, and I mean A LOT more issues than folks even realize.

Some Lexus models, especially the ES (50% of buyers are age 56+) and the LS (63% of buyers are age 56+) do appeal to an older demographic where comfort and ammenities might be more important than outright performance.

Will the transmission flare cause the tranny to break earlier or is just an annoyance? My dad just bought an ES350 but I don't think he'll notice a flare if it's happening.
