Default Headliner Depressions

Just after buying my first Lexus in April this year, I noticed some depressions in headliner just near the rear end of moonroff. The dealership used heat press to remove it but without success. They offered me to replace the headliner to which I refused. I thought that with summer heat, it would be alright and these would be gone. Few days ago I took my car to a different dealership to look in to this and they decided to replace it. Today I got my vehicle back and is even worse than before. New headliner has more depressions than the original one. Dealership documented this as normal after talking to Lexus Technical Specialist. I called corporate office today and expecting their reply within next 48 hrs. I checked the loaner vehicle and it had one depression only.

Can someone on this forum verify that their headliner is perfect or not. I believe this is poor quality control and instead of accepting the problem, they just label it as normal.

Can you post pictures of what you are describing? I can't visualize these "depressions" by reading the text alone.

I had my headliner lowered to have a TSIB performed for a rattle. My headliner was put back and it is not perfect either. But, it was fine prior to the TSIB.

I guess you have to weigh your options. Leave well enough alone, or have those techs starting messing around with things which could cause it to be worse in the end. It is a roll of the dice.

I would go to the service manager and have their best, cleanest, tech work on your car and try again.

I have a 2007 UL, and after your post i looked at my headliner. Between the tow sliders, there are some small, uneven (mild ripples) in the headliner. I am pretty picky, but these do not bother me. Maybe yours are worse...

have you had any TSIB's performed on your car?

if so, they probably removed your headliner, and used their fingers to press the headliner back into the clips. There's a row of clips in the back.

if they replaced your headliner, they would have pressed it back in with their fingers too, and it wouldn't look any better. haha.

it's easy to leave finger depressions in the headliner.

They should've used a flat board to press the headliner clips back in.

changing the headliner is tedious and expensive. They have to take out the seats and pop all the panels. Keep doing that, and youre bound to get a broken clip and rattles.

Yes I have the same ripples. I guess about 5 or 6 of them. I am still awaiting any reply from Lexus. The service manager told me they had this issue in almost all ES and RX models.
