Default ES350 Spoiler

Has anyone added the spoiler AFTER your purchase ?
How easy/difficult is this to do it yourself ?

I work at a Lexus Dealer. Our service techs do it in an hour or so. Don't think it's hard but you do have to drill holes to mount, so how comfortable do you feel with a drill and having it in the right place? Sometimes, it is better to have someone do it and then you don't have rattles or an edge that doesn't fit just right. Why spoil your new car?

i've had it done to my car... labor was about $300 i had $100 knocked off.. and the part was $240 i got it for $160... what a friend of mine did with his IS was that he did it himself... he pulled out the studs for the spoiler and used double sided tape and stuck it on. it's pretty sturdy and to my knowledge thats what BMW does too... double sided tape...

Any idea if the spoiler is heavy enough to prevent the trunk lid from staying up? I had this problem with the spoiler in the trunk lid from a previous car.

I had my ES350 installed with the spoiler a week after I purchased the car by the same dealership and had no problems of any kind including the trunk issue your asking about.

I did not re-adjust the torsion springs. It does not seem necessary and I did not want to needlessly disassemble that portion of the trunk. One year later it still seems fine, the trunk stays up without problems. It does take very little motion to close it but I like it that way. If it starts to sag, I can always re-adjust the springs later.

Have not seen many of these but the spoiler does look pretty good on the ES350. I am seriously considering it now specially if I get a good deal.

The factory spoilers come prepainted and should also have a template and instructions for mounting it. I have installed several spoilers and it's not as intemidating as it seems. The main thing is to get the template centered as instructed. Test fit the spoiler and make sure it fits correctly. I always mark everything with a grease pencil and tape off the areas that will be drilled. Laying down the tape helps keep the drill bit from drifting. Once the mounting holes are drilled....blow off all shavings. DO NOT WIPE OFF. Doing this could damage the paint finish. The next step is to wipe down the surface with the cleaner for the double sided tape. The tape provided will be double sided, remove the covering from one side and attach it to the spoiler. Peel back 1/2" of the covering from the other side and tape this to the spoiler. With the help of a friend, set the spoiler in place, start all mounting bolts, and then slowly peel off the protective cover from the tape and press the spoiler in place. Tighten all fasteners. Once completed, add a little wax and you are finished. The spoiler adds a lot to the appearance.

That looks awesome! Curious, how much was it installed?

The pic makes me want to detail mine. Maybe she will get some lovin' tomorrow.
