Speedometer Error
There was a thread awhile ago about this but I can't find it. I brought my ES350 in today for the 10K (only 8500 actual) service. I told them my speedometer ran about 2-3 mph slow, i.e when it said 50 I was only doing 48. It is not a serious problem but I notice it when a radar speed checker tests me all the time at Cape Canaveral here in FL. My other car reads correctly. Lexus of Orlando said they took it out for a test and it is within the dreaded "acceptable limits". Anyone else have this error and what is "acceptable limits"?

2 or 3 mph doesn't seem much to worry about. You're also making some assumptions. How do you know your other car is reading correctly, or that the radar gun is properly calibrated.

Are you using the stock size tires.....properly inflated?
I really thought that my speedometer was calibrated pretty close to the radar speed checkers on the side of the road. I would say the error is no more than +/- 1 mph.

Yes, I think there was an earlier thread about this. I believe what it said was that the Lexus cars read 2 mph over the speed reported by the roadside radar speed signs which is just what mine does. I probably go by 10 of these a day and it's always the same 2 mph less than what my speedometer shows.
It is so consistent that without knowing which is even correct I assume both are reporting the speed they are designed to report.
