I understand that Lexus dropped adjustable pedals with the introduction of the ES350. My wife loves this feature and it may restrict my ability to upgrade from my ES330. I have been looking around but unable to find out why this feature was dropped. Does anyone have any insight on this change?

My mother in law loves the option on her GM product car. Maybe Lexus saw it was not a popular feature.

I was told that the seat travel was increased, and the air bags are more sophisticated. These 2 facts rendered the adjustable pedals unnecessary.

It's because of the combination of the seat adjustments and the automatic steering wheel adjustments.
You adjust the seat so that your feet are comfortable with the pedals. You then adjust the steering wheel so that you are also comfortable with it. Lastly, you save these adjustments (one for you and one for your wife). Each driver has its own saved adjustment so everyone is comfortable without messing the other's adjustments. No need for the pedal adjustment anymore.

I don't see where you mentioned the adjustable steering wheel anywhere. You can adjust the seat closer to the pedal. However, without adjusting the steering wheel, it can be too close to your body and not only be uncomfortable but also unsafe.
