If you get hit with a no front plate ticket, try this: Go to the DMV right away and request new plates. I believe it costs $10. Then, shread the ticket. Most California juristictions contract with private co's to track and follow up on minor violations, and do not interface with the DMV in real time. Ergo, the old number is tracked which is no longer in the system. I've done this many times before I got smart and registered my car in Montana.

Sounds like you got lucky, but I wouldn't rely on that technique, otherwise all the parking ticket scofflaws in the state would be doing it, and you'd never see a Denver boot on a car.

Two plates have always been the law in CA, but it is being enforced much more often in LA nowadays because of the red-light cameras, many of which only take photos of the front of the car.

in san diego. we put the bracket on all cars besides the isx50. doing all the pdi on those cars are daunting. especially now since we have to install lo jack on every single one.

Don't you wind up paying only $10 to the court (unless it's gone up since I last had to get a fix-it ticket corrected) if you get the infraction corrected and signed off...in which case, it'd be sorta pointless to go the route you suggested?

You mean, sorta like those CA residents who register their vehicles in Oregon because the vehicle registration fee there is cheaper than in CA?

Now if you're not a permanent CA resident (i.e., you don't live in CA for the majority of each year), then my apologies...but methinks you are, given your "done this many times" comment.

That's if you don't mind paying $10. Some people are determined to not pay anything and will deal with whatever hassles they have to in order to not pay anything.

For others, paying $10 and whatever 2 sided tape or a couple of zip ties cost in order to get the ticket signed off is worth not having a front plate.
