Default ES 350, All season vs. summer tires

I have read on these forums that the summer tires are far superior to the standard all-season. Does the superiority of the summer tires hold up for most of the life of the tires? What type of mileage are you getting out of the summer tires before they need replacement? Thanks

Might try a search on this. I remember reading that owners with summer tires were very unhappy with early wear.

I have the all season Mich's on mine. 23K miles, rotated 2 times already, and they look great. I am also happy with the ride.

summer tires actually give better grip at about half tread life in teh dry. so technically they get better as they age, due to the tread blocks not being so tall and thereby squirming less under cornering load. that's why you see racers "shaving" tires if they ahve to run DOT tires.
i would expect maybe 20k out of a set. of course iget bored with tires pretty easily, so i have to say i've never actually comnpltely worn out a set. i end up changing them sooner than they have to be just to try somethign new.

I'd agree with that as a general rule. On the ES350, unless you plan on changing the suspension (and thus completely altering the point of this car), just go with the All Seasons.

Handling sucks on this car. The grip isn't the problem. It's the way the suspension is set up. I just imagine myself piloting a large luxury yacht and steer accordingly. Night and day difference from the BMW that this car replaced.

25000 on my Dunlop summers, but that is for my IS350. I drove the ES350 for a loaner the other day and I would say to just stick with the allseasons for comfort and tires mileage. It is just not sporty enough to get all the good out of summer tires. the allseasons give you the almost double life compliment the ride for the ES.

Default How many miles?

I have the Bridgestones and at 17000 they are beginning to look like they have entered their senior years. How many miles should I expect out of them.
I have rotated them every 5000 miles.

Are the Bridgestone's summer tires? Summer tires typically go 20,000 miles. I was extremely lucky in that I got 30,000 out of the Dunlops on my old BMW.
