On previous cars, the rear bumper received many cuts and scrapes from people behind me in paralell parking situations (my Accord is white, which really shows the damage). I don't want to spend $40K on a car that going look awful in a year from parking in cities like San Francisco. A reputable clear bra installer (and CL sponsor) said they could make a custom piece (including cutouts for the rear parking sensors) for a bit under $600. Quite steep.
Just wonder if any of you found alternative solutions or practices to minimize damage to the thin paint on Lexus rear bumpers.

I don't think the paint on Lexus bumpers is thinner than other cars. IMO for $600, I could get my bumper repainted 2 times. If the hit to your bumper is hard enough to crack your bumper, the clear bra material won't help you anyway.

For San Francisco, a clear bra isn't gonna help. You park/live there, consider both bumpers toast. It's not the Lexus' fault or any problem with the bumpers. It's the drivers who don't care.
