Default 2008 ES-350 - Any mechnical Issues?

I purchased a 2008 ES-350 in Descember,07 and have no issues with the car. In fact it is one of the best cars I have ever owned. I hear lot's of issues with the 07's. I was just wondering who has problems with the 08?
Thanks
Bobby

bobby,

A thread similar to your's was started. I think that since there are no mechanical changes between model years most 08 owners seem to be adding to existing threads on engine and transmission and I also think adding to owner poll as well since there are no mechanical changes.

Here are some areas you can review for 08 owner input.

I have not read about any rattles on 08s. Some tranny issues. Engine knock present on 08s. Bob gave you some good threads to read. Overall, I feel the 08s are better, but not perfect.

If you have no issues to date, you seem to have a good one.

I agree with him.

Default Wind Noise

I bought an '08 ES350 in December. Initially, the car vibrated a lot, especially at higher speeds. The dealer fixed that by balancing the tires. There may be some subtle engine noise and transmission issues, but nothing obvious.

The thing I find most frustrating and disappointing is the wind noise coming from the front of the driver's and front passenger's windows. It starts around 40 mph, and just gets louder with increasing speed. I really expected a Lexus to be a lot quieter. After reading all the wind noise posts, I suspect that the cause is air turbulence around the side mirrors. The dealer says nothing can be done. Hopefully Lexus will issue a TSIB to fix the problem (like they did on the LS).

I haven't seen any wind noise issues on the 08 ES350. I did a search for TSIB's and turned up nothing. Is it abnormally loud?

one,

They refused to do anything about it for 07 owners with it, I don't see them doing anything for 08 owners. It was classed as "normal operation" of an ES350 to have it, a very annoying issue to have.

Just got a new 2008 ES350...no probs. I do have a quick question though...the security light that flashes red, is that suppose to flash whenever the car is off regardless of if the doors are locked or not?

It's noticable in comparison with the '06 and earlier ES's. Wind noise was non-existant in the '02-'06 ES's and Camry's except in very strong headwind or side wind conditions. I think the reason the '07's and '08's are not as silent is because the headliner is thinner and radiates more heat and cold too compared to the '02-'06 ES's & Camry's.

In recent months I've rented a Buick Lucerne, Chrysler 300 and Ford 500 and they all had a thick headliner that was well insulated against wind noise, heat and cold. But they had other faults; e.g. the Buick got wildly tossed around by gusty winds and I had trouble staying in my lane.

A lot louder than I expected on a new Lexus. At 80 mph it's loud enough that I have to raise my voice when talking to the front seat passenger. The dealer's service technician admitted that there was significant wind noise, but said he couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it without an official TSIB.

Wow, I would try another dealer. My 07 has some wind noise, but raising my voice at 80 mph? No need.

Something is not right with your car. Let them have you take an ES350 loaner out for a test drive and see if it is a similar noise.

Noisy engine when cold.

Car is much noisier than I expected. Still much quieter than a regular car. Just much noisier than I expected b/c many years ago, we test drove an ES and that thing was like a tomb. Because of that, I just expected library quiet. Definitely don't need to raise my voice at 80 mph.

I hate how my ES's front and back glass creaks when I go over something bumpy. Don't know why I can't stand it :-/

I believe you'll find a TSB for windshield "creaks" in the TSB sticky post. May be something to look into.
