Default Windshield replacment

Guys,

Wife's ES350 had a crack on the windshield a few days ago. Any shop you would recommend for quality work and fair price?

What is the total cost?

We are in San Gabriel Valley.

Thanks,
tnt

It's that stupid acoustic layer that jacked up the price. I found the car a lot noisier than I expected so I'd rather have a touch more noise but not have to worry about such an expensive replacement.

I had my windshield replaced twice. Once was by safelite It was awful, the glass was severely distorted, the trim did not fit right and their customer service was horrible! Seriously.... do not go there. After about a week I gave up on Safelite and went to the dealer. The service manager referred me to the local "glass man" that they subbed out to and suggested a PPG windshield with Lexus windshield trim. What a difference! It is almost perfect at about 30% of the price of a Lexus windshield.

I would call around and see who local body shops recommend and your local dealer and find out who they sub-contract the windshields to, and use one of them. Just don't go to Safelite.

I would definitely recommend putting Lexus glass back into your vehicle.

Although, I broke a windshield on a customer's car by accident. We had to eat a $1300 peice of glass.

In my opinion, I would let your insurance take care of it and take it to the dealer.

I am sorry but lexus is over-rated for its glass. I don't know how it got cracked. I see a very small chip on the glass which leads to the expansion. Anyways, we found a company called Allstar which is about 1300 bucks.

Seems to be the case. I hear there are problems with the aftermarket stuff not fitting/looking right.

My opinion: Save yourself the trouble, let insurance put OEM glass back in your car. Lexus designed it to work with the vehicle. I dont understand why you would do anything else if insurance it picking up the tab? Its like people that take their wrecked vehicles to shady aftermarket bodyshops, I just dont get it.

^ I have to agree....we had a big discussion on LOC with a member who had serious problems on an aftermarket windshield for his RX.....get the OE replacement.

most issues i have experienced with glass are due to the installer and not the glass itself.
