Normal RPM's
My engine runs at roughly 2,000 rpm when I'm going 60mph on my ES350. Is that normal? I'm not getting the great gas mileage that I read about on this forum and am wondering why.
Thanks for your input.

Yesterday we returned from a 2,500 driving vacation. According to the car's trip computer, the overall average gas mileage for the trip was 30.0 mpg. The final "Tank Average" was 32.9 mpg. The trip was mainly highway driving, with some non-congested city drving along the way.
I use 87 octane regular unleaded.
I didn't figure the mileage manually, but when I've done it in the past, the car's computer is usually about 1 mpg higher than the manual figure.

The 2000 RPM is normal. I'd suggest checking your tire pressure. Also, if you have a whole carload of people or trunk full of luggage, don't expect to get the EPA numbers. Keeping a fairly steady foot and allowing the car to slow slightly going up hills will improve your fuel efficiency, too.

Thanks everyone. My normal mileage is in the very low 20's. When I go on a long drive I normally keep it at about 75. No jack rabbit starts (I'm 71 after all) :>) Usually only 2 of us in the car - nothing in the trunk. I'll check tire pressure.
I'm bringing it in for my 5,000 mile oil change soon - I'll mention it to them.
Thanks again....

Hmmm--one might think that, given that the ES350 has six gears, the rpms in top (i.e., 6th) gear at 60 mph might be a bit lower than 2000.
Edit/update--2000 rpm at 60 mph is normal...if you're in 5th gear; if you're getting that while cruising at freeway speeds (e.g., 65 mph or faster), then something is clearly not right. In 6th gear, the tach should show roughly 1800 rpm at 60 mph...and 2000 rpm at 70 mph.
Bottom line--if you're cruising at 65 mph (but not faster, for testing purposes) and your tach is showing higher than 2000 rpm...then check to see if your tranny is shifting into 6th gear--if not, then you're not getting the best fuel economy possible.

I have just turned 1200 miles on my car and so far I am getting 25 1/2 MPG on 87 oct. I think it is early and the engine is tight so I'll see in a few months on what the milage will be.

2000rpm
Just to verify what has been previously stated.
I read 70 MPH when engine is at 2000 RPM.
Thats with a 2008 ES350 - build date of Aug 07.
Transmission flair but no other built in problems.
