Default 215/55/17 -> 225/45/17 Winter?

I have found a set of "used" brand new wheels and winter tires, bridgestone revo1 and LS wheels for a decent price, but the tire profile is for the IS, not the ES.

225/45/17, which is approx. 5% smaller than the OEM wheel diameter I have read 2.5% is ideal difference, other than having a massive wheel gap, what other results would happen from using these wheels?

More recorded mileage than actual?

Correct. Because your wheels are going to be turning 2.5% faster, it will mean you will be recording your mileage 2.5% faster as well.

Also, you can expect to see your gas mileage go down a little bit as well.

I've also heard it can also cause issues with the transmission because the car is not traveling at the speed the TCM thinks it is. My advise is not to use these tires.

Just a little info here. 1st if you are looking for winter tires (to drive in the snow) then you should be looking for a narrower tire and not a wider tire. Wide tires will ride on top of the snow where narrow tires have more traction. It makes no difference on ice. Next is tire size. The nice things about all of the electronics is the ability to make adjustments. If you want to put on different diameter tires it will only affect your true speed reading. It will not hurt the car. All of the functions that require the speedo to work will function but at either an increased or decreased %. But if you do want to correct these features then the dealer can change the tire OD in the CPU so it will be correct. The thing that will cause a problem is if the front left tire is a different size then the front right tire. This will affect the transaxial and if driven for a long time will damage some components.

wow, electronics cease to amaze me, that's really good to know about reprogramming for mileage sake. I also found during my research that a narrower tire would be more ideal in the winter.

I ended up getting 225/55/17, the only reason was because I found a set used for a good deal. also I have no TPMS and no warning light on (2 weeks) *knocks on wood*
