Transmission flare?
#16
On mine, the lag is very minor. Doesn't bother me.
My wife's previous 2004 Sienna had the lag and I could not stand it. It was so bad, that passenger's forward momentum would continue as I would push the gas and the van would lose power. Not a fun ride, everyone would feel a jerk. A flash update under warranty fixed that problem. (Again I bought a car on its first year after a major redesign...why won't I learn my lesson?...HA HA )

Although, my friend who works at the local dealership says the IS has the same fly by wire system. Anybody gotten an IS as a loaner?

Ditto! My first and LAST first year release vehicle. I'm going to go ahead and get the flash done and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I may just get into an IS which I seriously considered before getting this car. I needed four comfortable seats at that time, for work, but that has since changed. And I'm tired of having to think ahead about my need for immediate speed.

The 07 ES350 loaner that I'm driving now has both lag and deacceleration which is both annoying and dangerous. Car has 17K miles.

Turned ES350 back to dealer today after 10 days. It was a nice comfy car but cornering was somewhat limited. I think the adaptive tranny was starting to do that as the lag and de-accleration problem became less pronounced.

With new drivers every day or every few days, I suppose loaners with adaptive transmissions are constantly adapting.??

That is exactly what the dealer told me when I bought my 09. He said if you drive hard then do it, because the trans will learn, I believe he said they can only reset it one more time after so many miles, to go through the re-learning process, after that it's 'fixed' and can't re-learn. So if you drive hard then do it right away. If you are a 'pedal to the floor' kinda guy during take offs, then drive it that way, if you are more of a 'lamb' like me then be 'gentle'. The trans will learn your 'style' of driving.
Loaner cars are anybody's guess. I'm sure that tranny would be wacked. I'm not sure if one could know the history of a used ES unless they spoke to the previous owner about their driving habits, which would probably be a mute point depending on how many miles are on the car.....

After 10 days with the ES350, I grew to appreciate the car.
This ES forum is a bit quiet, but I do appreciate the input from the people here. Thanks and you will often find me over in the IS 2nd gen section.
