09 ES 350: Not Happy with brakes
#16
yeah try driving another car. But I kind of know what you are talking about though.
The brakes don't really do anything for the first little part, but in terms of working when you need them to they have never failed me.
I have also heard they are "progressive or intelligent pedals"? as in the faster u press it the harder they brake? not sure bout that though.

I think what you are referring to is "brake assist" feature for panic stops. Upon detection of panic stop (signaled by snapping foot off throttle, quickly hitting brake pedal hard), full brake boost is provided for maximum braking power.
Of course the ABS and skid control systems help you maintain control in these panic stop situations too.

Very common complaint. Read below.
The only complaint that some reviewers had about driving the ES were the brakes. USA TODAY sums up these problems well, saying the brakes are "too soft when you first apply the pedal. You think nothing's happening and push harder, resulting in more dramatic stops than you intended." The driver's assessment continues, "The first tap of the wide pedal still should bring vigorous results rather than leaving you wondering if the brakes are working right."
Though a number of reviewers report problems feeling how much pressure was needed in braking, the brakes themselves aren't a disappointment. "Although the brakes themselves are average in size for this class, the electronic control package that comes with them makes them very powerful and very repeatable, with no sign of brake fade after a hard workout," reports Carbuytip.com. Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Force Distribution, which applies braking pressure to wheels individually, combine to ensure competent and stable stopping power. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard.

I thought this problem was far worse on VW's finicky brakes. Coming from a Toyota, it took me a good while to get used to the glaringly non-linear pedal travel on my Passat, but I grew to like it.
Now I'm back to Lexus and the pedal travel is much more newbie-friendly than the VW.

Hi,
With regard to the brakes I had a problem with the rotors being warped with less than 10,000 miles on my 2007. I took it to the dealer and they turned them and they have been OK ever since. I have just over 25,000 miles now and am still on the first set of pads. I think that the manufacturer does not use the best rotors in the world and I will look in to new (different) ones when I change the pads.

Brakes
I have a 09 ES. I'm presently taking a short trip and have given special attention to the brakes after reading this post. I have not observed anything unusual when braking. I have the stopping power when needed. I would advise having the dealer perform an inspection.

Had my 40K oil change today. Front brake pads measured at 8/32 and the rears at 7/32....original pads. Driving mix highway and traffic. Not too bad, eh? The front rotors were replaced under warranty at 23K and I think the rears are now beginning to warp.
Why can't the rotors out last the pads?

UPDATE
Took the car in for service, turns out that there is nothing wrong with the braking system. I took two other ES350s out for a drive and they all brake the same way.
I quess that I'm used to the way my GS brakes, or better said a better feeling brake pedal.
