$29.90 to replace two keyfob batteries? Literally takes 3 minutes to do (includes Googling to find out how to take the keyfob apart) and both batteries were less than $10 at Radio Shack.

I'd take the free oil change and tire rotation. That is nice. But $29.90 to change key for batteries? Are they kidding? First off, the batteries shouldn't need to be changed after only a year. They should last 3-5 years. Secondly, you can buy the batteries at Wal-Mart for $3 each and it takes 2-5 minutes to get them installed.
$15 for a loaner car? Most people aren't going to use $15 worth of gas in less than one day. That is also a rip-off. The loaner should be free (both of Lexus dealers that I have done business with offer free ES350 or IS350's until your car is done).
$199 to detail the car is steep. An ES isn't that difficult. $150-175 (for black) is more realistic.

The dealer is a rip-off. Go elsewhere, IMHO.

Concerning the fob batteries. My IS-F manual tells me to change the batteries every year. My wife's ES manual is silent on the subject. I will be changing both every year. Remember these are not like the remote fobs we used in the "old days" these get deployed a lot more. Just walking up to the car and turning on the puddle lamps and inside lights exercises the fob. Then unlocking the door, starting and stopping the car, opening the trunk and etc. All these activities, and I'm sure a lot more, will deplete the battery. Changing it every year is good insurance. And, it's really not expensive.

I think your dealer is a thief - I paid $56 at 10,000 miles for an oil change which always includes all of the "inspects" and keeps the car in compliance with all warranty requirements. I replaced my key fob batteries for a few dollars at about 24 mos. I think the system may alert you to low batteries but I replaced mine anyway even though I was not experiencing any loss of performance. Tire rotations are either done by me or Discount Tire for free.

On my 2 1/2 year old, 40K mile ES350, the low battery light just lit up 2 days ago (for the keyfob). Why would you replace the battery before the car tells you it is low?

Exactly. The car will tell you. You got almost 3 years out of the battery. Not surprising.

The dealers would replace your seats every year if they could. Hey, dealers are around to make money, not just "inspect" you car and send you on your merry way. If they can perform some function, whether it's too early or not really required, that money in the accounts for them. Everyone just needs to be more conscious of what they have and how long they're SUPPOSE to last, not when the dealer wants to replace them.

My car will be three years old at the end of April. I got the low key fob battery warning message last week. Battery was $4.99 at Radio Shack and replacement instructions are in the owners manual.

Thanks for the info, I will look into that!

Recently, I valet parked my car in a NYC garage for two days. The valet told me they keep the keyfob in the car. I think that is what killed my battery.

That meant two days without it being locked.

Yes, very true. But it was in the hotel's underground garage.

Whow! I would not want my key fob left sitting in my car...anywhere.

Mine will be 3yo in May. Just got the low battery notification two weeks ago. $5 at Radio Shack.

Yeah, I found out afterwards when the attendent could not find the fob when I picked my car up...it was thrown under the driver's seat and they finally dug it out. Lesson learned.

And yes, I too went to radio shack yesterday and replaced the battery myself. Thanks for everyone's help.

I replaced my batteries about 2 weeks ago at $4.99 each from Radio Shack. It took longer to take the leather sheath off and on of the Fob than it did to open it up and replace the battery.
