Question Engine Repairs

I have a '08 ES350 which I bought in October '07. I don't drive it a lot and it only has 7000 miles in it. Recently, the check engine light came on and it developed a rumble when it was idling. I brought it in for service and after 2 days I was told that they were going to have to replace a camshaft and a number of other parts. They told me there was a TSIB on this and my build date was included. I was also told that the engine was going to have to be pulled to accomplish the repairs. I was upset, but what could I do. Outside of oil changes that I had at the dealership, the car was never in the shop before.

The parts came in and when they were taking out the old parts they couldn't find anything wrong with them. They called Lexus and were told not to proceed with the replacement but instead, replace the 2 oil valve assemblies. Fortunately, they never had to pull the engine. The repairs are finished and I'm told that the car is running fine now. They want to give it another road test and I should be able to pick it up Monday or Tuesday.

I'm confused. Something sounds screwy to me. Has anyone had this type of an experience before? Is there something that I should be looking for?

I have not heard of any engine problems at all even with the 07 builds which had known problems with the transmission. I'm surprised to learn that there is a TSIB on the engine. It is possible that they misdiagnosed the problem, because otherwise they would have found something wrong with the camshaft. It's costly to pull an engine so if they were willing to do it, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I say drive the car and see what happens. Good Luck

No problems with the engines in the '07's? You might want to check out my post :

For what its worth, I just picked-up my car today. "Replaced 2 oil valves in bank 1" I dropped it off on April 1. It seems to be ok. No problems on the way home.
